This post idea came from a spam comment..Are you backing up?
This post could go anywhere! Back-up plan for business, back-up plan for computer, maybe back-up plan for a blog…we could even consider back-up plan for a date or sex….hmmmm. Are you backing up the back-up?
Well today’s thoughts are regarding a computer, website/blog.
- Have you ever lost all your data before, or you couldn’t get your computer to boot up correctly?
- Have you ever been typing on a document and you accidentally close, don’t save, moving quickly, bam…it’s gone?
- Are those not the moments you just go, DAMN…or something else?
We just have to slow down and make sure we always have a back-up for just about anything. I do mean anything, but I am going to stick to computer related things for now…:)
Many of us utilize external hard drives to back-up our computers. I have always heard and read recently that the best external hard drive is Western Digital. I do agree, I have one. If you don’t have one, it’s a wise investment. You can probably find deals at Best Buy and other electronic stores.
I switched to them about 3 years ago because my first external hard drive stopped working. I cannot completely blame the company for it, it was partially my fault for moving my office around my house when I got bored, of course the external hard drive had to come too.
But I also blame my granddaughter who was around 5 or 6 at the time. You know how kids have to climb over cords to get to you versus walking where the path is clear. She kept doing that and murphy’s law stepped in, what could go wrong did – the hard drive falls on the floor…it was over.
I then purchased the Western Digital and left it in a single location. I moved across the country, extra-protected it. Moved to the South, extra-protected it. Settled in for about 6 months and one day it just stopped working. I now need to take it to try and get the data off of it.
I now – back up online and via disks. I am using Mozy which works just fine. There is a low monthly rate that works for my budget as well. I may switch to the low annual rate that Carbonite has. I have utilized it for my clients..it’s inexpensive and works great!
Websites need to be backed up too! WordPress has several plugins and your control panel should have an option to back up too! I am using Online Backup for WordPress Plugin for my websites.
I like the fact that I can email a backup AND have an online backup…with encryption!. I also utilize the back-up options with Go Daddy.
I plan to purchase another external hard drive and I will include it as part of my online back-up. Then I will have a back-up of the back-up…
So are you backing up the backup? Any suggestions?
