Ever say to yourself, I am gonna write that plan, finish that post, write that article, and focus…focus…focus
That day comes and goes….
It stays in the back of your mind, tomorrow, next week, very soon.
Stop It…Stop what you are doing right now…and complete something that you have been putting off that will only take about 30 minutes and DO IT…
An epiphany occurred for me this morning. It was the result of guilt I felt after reading a blog post of someone I admire in the wee hours of the morning when I should have been asleep.
Basically the blog post was about running a business with basic steps that need to be followed.
The 1st step of course is the business plan and the importance/critical need to have one. That hurt…I HAD one! It’s kinda old now.
The next steps were on point, I am there, I am doing it…no problem. But that 1st point stung.
After all if we don’t plan, we get lost and don’t know where we are going…in EVERYTHING.
How can we know which direction to head in if we don’t plan it?
I KNOW I should have one or at least updated the one I started with 6 years ago…It is still pretty relevant today, just needs some tweaking.
This morning the guilt got the best of me, I sacrified my sleep, and I started a plan. I listed short and long term goals. YES!
Interestingly, after I finished the 1st draft…I found one I started in December so I just combined the two…Ahhh the feeling of accomplishment.
I also discovered from the earlier plan I started and forgot about…I had accomplished a few of those goals…Yay
Procrastination arrives in various forms. It is also called distractions, lost of focus, laziness, lack of good time management. It looks like:
- Reading emails regularly vs. read the emails during specific time frames, not constantly.
- Jumping back and forth on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In vs. Planning specific time to spend on those websites.
- Answering personal calls during your most productive hours in the day vs. letting people know you are working on something – plan time later to chit-chat.
- Not reviewing the calendar that already has tasks listed that need to be completed vs. reviewing the information 1st to know what is most important for that day.
It ALL comes back to planning!
After being so inspired the other day watching that final Oprah show, that led to my previous blog post, the positive energy is still flowing. If she can spend all those hours working towards success…so can I!
If she can work for 25 years and not miss a day because of the need to be of service to others…so can I.
That one line has resonated with me as if it is haunting me “Are we where we are suppose to be“. I so believe I am, I just need to make the effort to stay on the path that is leading me on a successful journey.
How does one stop procrastinating?…merely to stop procrastinatng…make the effort – do something differently, focus, step up. Find what works for you.
Watch out…I’m coming through!
