I am in the process of revamping content on my website and my bio, making plans, etc. I am always reading various blog posts, and e-books about marketing for myself as well as my clients. One thing that is always consistent regardless of who you follow…they all say you have to have a specific niche to market to. It makes sense. When you select a specific niche you can be very intentional of how to market. You will learn what pain that niche may have and how to market in way that presents solutions/healing for the pain. It will help to focus your efforts, time, and money. Wellll, I don’t have one..kinda
I have been struggling with this for the past five years and I decided to just let go! One of my clients who is always very supportive told me to create one; that was two years ago. I have been trying to come up with a creative word to describe my client base and it is not working. Then I thought, well I guess I should identify one that I want to attract/market to. Well shoot, who is that?
Okay…next step. I’ll try identifying the client I work best with and enjoy most…hmmm I enjoy all my clients, especially the relationships that we have built. That’s not working. How do I translate the personality that I click with into a niche? In my opinion, our first conversation tells us if we can work together or not.
I have and continue to be blessed that I attract clients via word of mouth and referrals. I have received clients via Twitter, Facebook and being listed on VA sites…but that is not because of niche marketing – right. Those clients came as a result of something I said or a response to something they said. BUT maybe it is because of the “type” of people I friend and who friend/follow me…hmmm.
I am reading a book titled “Red Hot Internet Publicity” by Penny Sansevieri. In the book she said think of social media as a cocktail party. You meet, greet and strike up conversations with people. She gave some good recommendations for finding your ideal client online which I will utilize. I do recommend her book and it is helping me define many things for myself and my clients.
I work with coaches, speakers, marketing professionals, financial strategist, TV show host and more. Each one of them is unique but similar. They all need newsletters, website maintenance, blogs, creative materials and more…I spoke with a magician the other day who is looking for support in the future…how cool is that…just the attitude he has was great and it would be very interesting to work with him. Regardless of the profession they all have similar needs.
Maybe I will just continue to network and step up my process of building relationships with people I am meeting online. I love what the new world of social media is bringing to the online world, we are all meeting people we would not have met otherwise. I love being able to keep up with my friends that I no longer get to see on a regular basis.
Can I call my niche..”positmotive”…positively motivated entrepreneurs? Well, that’s who I attract and I am very grateful for that. I attract people that want what they want yesterday and I step up and get it done yesterday!
So I think I will pass on defining a niche for now and just put out to the universe to keep sending me positive, motivated, enthusiastic professionals that are growing and need my help to relieve their stress and enhance their success. I need some help naming my niche, I don’t want one that is like others – I will accept any and all suggestions. I might even give away a few hours of free service if you can come up with a name for my niche!
