No matter how much you love your business and the growing success, having tons of work can be a bit stressful. Sometimes we just have to get naked, reduce our stress…accept that we are on the edge….and let go!
When you are stressed your productivity goes down because you are not at your optimum best. As a business owner, it is your duty to manage your stress so that you are more productive.
Ignoring the stress and forcing yourself to work will mean that you end up executing a mediocre job which is not good for your company.
Managing individual stress is not only good for your physical and mental well-being, but also in developing efficiency in your business. How can you improve while growing, if you are too stressed out?
When you are feeling stressed, here are few things to try:
Sitting in the same position all day, everyday can contribute to your stress. Performing some physical activity can significantly reduce your stress.
Make it your practice to ensure that you do something physical to relax your mind and take the edge off. For example, you can take a walk around the building or home which clears your mind and helps you relax.
When you have a break, try to get to a place that offers you a change of surroundings. For example, you can try to go to different restaurants in close proximity to your home office for lunch. By the time you get back, you will feel refreshed and ready to work again.
Visualization and Meditation
Take some time when you are feeling really stressed to meditate. You do not have to leave the comfort of your chair for this exercise. Relax, close your eyes, and just concentrate on your breathing. Don’t think about anything.
As you are coming out of it, visualize the value of your work and how your efforts will be rewarded when the work is done.
Make Use of Breaks
Ummm You ARE taking breaks right?
Talking to other entrepreneurs can be a great way to reduce stress if you work from home, they can relate, and will probably have great advice; a good distraction. Who’s your favorite fellow entrepreneur to call when you need advice? Call them!
Schedule lunch and meet at a coffee shop. Conversations with others on anything other than work will help. Talk about sports, shopping, basically anything that keeps your mind peaceful. Ahhhh….
Relieve Stress and Market your Business Too!
Although the most important value when undertaking charity work is helping others, it is also a good way for you and your company to reduce the levels of stress for yourself, employees or contractors, as well as promoting your company brand.
For example, registering your company with sporting events for charitable organizations like walks:
- Requires time for all of you to get out of the office
- Increases activity
- Builds bonding among the business partners
- Feels good because you are doing for others
- Promotes the business.
They say change is as good as getting rest.
When you choose to start outsourcing, you not only invite new energy into your life, but it’s the excitement of NEW that creates change, thus feeling rested/energized. Think about it.
(Note: if this is not happening, you may have selected the wrong person)
Working with new individuals is usually a good transformation as well as a learning experience. It’s especially beneficial when you are prepared for transitioning and know exactly what the priorities are that need to be completed.
Casual/Crazy Outfit Friday
This may seem like a not so good idea if you work from home...BUT …why not put something special or outrageous on one day a week…Friday is great for closing out the week, re-energizing and creating new energy for the weekend.
If you have employees, or contractors in a business environment….let them dress casually so the entire office is beaming in relaxation and increased productivity.
There is something magic about Friday. People want to close things out, which can mean more money, or they want to put it aside for tackling on Monday and not stressing out at the end of the week. Right?
It’s the best day of the week to just get bucket naked with yourself and breath in all that you have accomplished this week because you took time to care for SELF. (note: bucket naked is intentional…a Bernie Mac reference!)
How have you gotten naked lately?
