Why is it when we accomplish some things vs. others we do not understand what happened or how we got there?
We know that we worked at it, but things just did not work out. Or, they worked out only for a short time.
It’s determination toward accomplishing a goal, a task, or a relationship that will take you places in life.
Is it determination that fuels the passion and eventually drives accomplishment of the goal?
Passion is the energy that comes from bringing more of YOU into the equation, or desire.
Determination is the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose. Self-determination is of one’s own fate or course of action without compulsion; free will.
What are you passionate about and determined to make happen?
A Lesson in Determination – Discovery of Self
I recently drove from Atlanta to Los Angeles. A month ago, I would not have believed that I would make that drive by myself. When I look back at it, I’m still amazed.
I was determined!
After a few attempts of trying to get friends to schedule time to ride with me, it became evident it was not going to work out.
I was ready to move BACK to Los Angeles. I needed to get grounded and BE where I felt was home. You see I have been “homeless” for the past year and a half. I traveled to different cities, staying with family members in search of where did I truly want to settle.
I decided to go home.
(I originally moved from LA a few years back for emotional reasons and left my support system. I did not realize how much I “needed” the support of my close friends and extended family. But I moved for family which was the right thing to do at the time.)
When I realized I would be driving by myself – I must admit, I was scarred and nervous about the unknown…but I remained steadfast and positive.
A friend suggested I not drive more than 8 hours vs. the 12-15 per day I had in my head. That was the best advice ever.
When I approached the 8th hour or close too it, it was such a mental relief to know I was almost at my destination.
It took me four days and I have to say, it was probably the BEST time I ever had with “myself“.
How often do we really get a chance to be with ourselves for that length of time, no distractions, simply focused on the road ahead?
I didn’t even like talking on the phone while driving, it interfered with my focus. I built a group text to update my support group, and utilized Foursquare every time I stopped.
During that drive – I spent many hours thinking about my life.
Most importantly…I took care of me. For the first time “my” needs came before anyone, or anything else.
People on the road follow the rules…they stay to the right unless passing. They were polite, stayed to themselves. No one was in a rush, just focused on getting to that next destination. The energy was powerful.
I learned deeply that whatever I want to accomplish, I can. My self-determination solidified that when my energy is focused, I accomplish what I planned.
I now know, I mean I KNOW whatever I want is possible. Being alone with self gives strength and insight that no one else can impart to you.
What are you determined to do that will solidify your end result? Is it passion or determination?
