Consistency is key if you want to accomplish anything. Continuous intentions, keeping and putting things in place will make all the pieces stay together. Working from home at times can cause more distractions, not that I would want to give that up. But you have to be consistent with your actions to complete the tasks in front of you. Friends may call more because they know you are normally home since you are “suppose” to be working. Family knows how to reach you and will call just because. Let’s not talk about email…
When I started my business at the end of 2004, I had just left my job of 24 years. It was a cycle of downsizing and many others left as well. Another person with the same position as myself left the same day. We lived in different areas of the same state and we talked EVERYDAY! I would look up and another day passed and no work was done toward starting my business. It was helpful to get us through the transition, AND we both decided to start our virtual assistant business.
We took the same virtual assistant course for the next 4 months so that added to our need to talk everyday. The wonderful instructor/coach we had taught us that we needed to be disciplined in how we spent our days working from home. She taught us to restrict our time on the phone and to evaluate the other things that can get in the way.
Today I read a great blog by a virtual assistant that was really inspirational and reminded me about being consistent with my concentration. She gave some great tips/strategies that really help.
I learned rather quickly that you have to be consistent with your intentions. I have also learned that clients that are consistent help as well. If a client is not, that’s where I come in to help bring consistency. It can be difficult at times. As leaders, we don’t always want to listen, we want things done ‘our’ way. Once the bonding is in place, we help each other be consistent and trust that the completion of the required tasks are done.
I love clients that want things done yesterday. That sense of urgency helps me to be consistent and intentional with what needs to be accomplished everyday. I still struggle at times, which is why the blog I read today really reminded me of my struggles and gave some great tips on my concentration and how key it is to stay focused. The best thing is to relax and breath at the end of the day. It’s key to relax your mind, smile, and be ready for the next day. I am ready and focused….On to the next task!
